What Is Fire Door Installation?

Fire door installation is the fitting of specially manufactured doors designed to resist the spread of fire and smoke between compartments in a building. A fire-rated door assembly includes the door leaf, frame, intumescent strips, smoke seals, certified hinges, and a self-closing device, all working together to maintain a fire barrier for a specified period. Our MEP team supplies and installs fire doors rated from 30 to 120 minutes, ensuring every component meets Civil Defence requirements and the door is correctly installed to perform as tested.

Our Fire Door Installation Process

The process begins with a site survey where we measure the opening, assess the wall construction, and determine the fire rating required for that specific location based on building use, occupancy, and Civil Defence code requirements. We then specify the complete door assembly including leaf material and thickness, frame type, intumescent strips, smoke seals, hinges, handles, and door closer model. Fire-rated doors are sourced from certified manufacturers who hold valid test certificates from accredited laboratories. On-site, the frame is fitted plumb and square, anchored securely to the surrounding structure with fire-rated fixings. The door leaf is hung on certified hinges, intumescent strips and smoke seals are verified in position, and the self-closing device is fitted and adjusted to ensure the door closes and latches fully from any open angle. The completed installation is tested and compliance documentation is provided.

When You Need Fire Door Installation

Fire doors are required wherever building regulations demand fire compartmentation to protect escape routes and limit fire spread. This includes stairwell doors, corridor doors, doors to electrical and plant rooms, and doors between different occupancy areas. New building construction and fit-out projects require fire door installation as part of the Civil Defence approval process. Existing buildings may need fire door replacement when current doors are damaged, fail inspection, or do not meet updated code requirements. If a fire door does not close and latch properly, has damaged or missing seals, or shows signs of warping, it must be repaired or replaced immediately as it cannot be relied upon to contain fire.

Dubai Civil Defence enforces strict requirements for fire door installation in all commercial, residential, and mixed-use buildings. Fire doors must carry valid test certificates to BS 476 or EN 1634 standards, and all components including ironmongery must be fire-rated and compatible. During fit-out approval, Civil Defence inspectors check fire door locations, ratings, and installation quality as part of the overall fire safety system review. Buildings undergoing renovation or change of use often discover that existing doors do not meet current requirements, triggering replacement.
